Northern Ireland riots: Bus hijacked and set on fire | Editor’s picks

A bus has been hijacked and set on hearth in Belfast as violence escalated on the sixth consecutive evening of unrest on the streets of Northern Ireland.

Prime minister Boris Johnson mentioned he was “deeply involved by the scenes” after the Translink double-decker pelted with petrol bombs within the west of the town.

The assault was one of many a number of incidents on Wednesday night on the peace line avenue that hyperlinks the loyalist Shankill Street with the nationalist Springfield Street.

Stones have been thrown at officers and a press photographer was assaulted as crowds gathered within the space.
