Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi confirmed their resort 2022 assortment as a brief movie throughout London Vogue Week, taking Cecil Beaton’s early images of his sisters, buddies and society figures as inspiration for a frill-filled lineup.
A spectacular exhibition of Beaton’s work from the Twenties and Nineteen Thirties referred to as “Bright Young Things” on the Nationwide Portrait Gallery was minimize quick after London went into lockdown in March 2020.

This was a romantic assortment with numerous colour and shine. The designers took their cues from Beaton’s pictures of pantomimes and costume events, planting outsized pierrot or ruffle collars on sheer, quick clothes with pouf skirts or assertion sleeves.
Little pie-crust collars popped from beneath a brilliant sequinned costume and a patterned harlequin high, whereas different robes dripped with lace.
The design duo even paid homage to Beaton’s black-and-white pictures of his sisters carrying garments and equipment fabricated from tin foil. One of many Preen fashions glowed brightly in a silver sequin high with quick bell sleeves and bows on the shoulders.
Whereas this assortment skewed costume-y at instances, it was enjoyable, upbeat and consistent with the lengthy lengths and exaggerated proportions on the streets of London at the moment.
The couple mentioned they have been struck by the Beaton pictures, which captured the “giddy delirium” and inventive spirits that got here after World Warfare I.
“They confirmed how creativity can develop from tragedy, they have been stuffed with unbound pleasure with a carefree expression. We cherished the way in which they weren’t restrained by gender, fusing each masculine and female of their enjoyable expression, combining fits with ruffles, silks with gaberdines, frills with leathers.”
There was a sustainability angle, too, with fringes on trench coats produced from vegan leather-based, materials produced from single-use plastic and lifeless inventory from U.Okay. mills. Even the sparkles have been inexperienced. Thornton and Bregazzi mentioned they did restricted runs of sequin clothes and made them from recycled classic clothes.
