Racism, police brutality pushing Black anxiety in Michigan, nation


Warren – The occasions of 2020 already had Eddie Corridor on edge.

Then, the troubles of a nation in turmoil landed on Corridor’s doorstep in Warren in September when racist graffiti was scrawled on his pickup truck and pictures had been fired into his house after his household positioned a Black Lives Matter signal of their entrance window.

“I’m in fight mode. I’m defending my household,” Corridor, a 52-year-old Black man, advised The Related Press.

Some consultants say police brutality, the coronavirus pandemic that has taken disproportionate bodily and monetary tolls on Black individuals, and different points round race have elevated anxiousness ranges amongst African People, like Corridor.

The assaults on Corridor’s house had been investigated as a hate crime and 24-year-old white neighbor, Michael Frederick Jr., ultimately was arrested and charged with ethnic intimidation and different crimes.
